Questions We’re Often Asked

What is West Wind Yoga?
West Wind Yoga is a depth-oriented yoga school offering seasonal immersions, retreats, teacher trainings, and long-term mentorship. Our work supports practitioners and teachers who already have a relationship with practice and are seeking continuity, perspective, and lived integration beyond regular studio classes.

Who is West Wind Yoga for?
West Wind Yoga is for practitioners and teachers who feel that their practice is established, but not finished.
Many people find us when regular classes no longer feel sufficient, yet certification programs or constant training do not feel like the right next step. Our offerings are designed for those seeking depth, seasonal rhythm, and a practice that can be carried into everyday life.

Do I need to be a yoga teacher to participate?
No. While yoga teachers are welcome and may earn Yoga Alliance Continuing Education hours in certain programs, our offerings are not limited to teachers.
Many participants are long-term practitioners who want to deepen their understanding of movement, breath, philosophy, and seasonal practice without the pressure of training to teach.

Is this a certification or teacher training program?
Some of our programs are formal teacher trainings, but many are not.
Seasonal Immersions, retreats, and mentorship offerings are designed for study and integration rather than certification. These programs support learning for its own sake and for lived application, not credentialing.

What makes your approach different from regular yoga classes?
West Wind Yoga does not offer drop-in classes.
Our work unfolds through longer-form offerings that allow insight to develop over time. Rather than focusing on repetition or performance, we emphasize seasonal awareness, inquiry, and practices that evolve as life does.
Yoga here is not something to complete, but something to live with.

What styles or traditions influence your teaching?
Our work is informed by classical yoga, Tantric philosophy, Taoist Five Element wisdom, qigong, meditation, and contemporary teaching methodology.
Tradition is honored through thoughtful translation, allowing ancient frameworks to remain relevant, accessible, and alive in modern life.

What are Seasonal Immersions?
Seasonal Immersions are multi-week learning experiences aligned with the natural rhythm of the year.
Each season explores one of the Five Elements alongside one of the Koshas, or layers of being. Through movement, breath, meditation, and simple philosophy, participants learn how to work with seasonal energy in practical, embodied ways.

Are your retreats suitable for experienced practitioners?
Yes. Our retreats are intentionally designed for practitioners who value depth, continuity, and thoughtful guidance.
Retreats are held in small groups and shaped by the relationship between practice, people, and place. Rather than offering a fixed or performative schedule, time is held intentionally to support movement, reflection, conversation, and integration.

What makes West Wind Yoga retreats different?
West Wind Yoga retreats are not an escape from life, but a way of entering more fully into it.
Place is treated as an active teacher, not a backdrop. Daily practice, shared meals, and time together unfold in relationship with the land, culture, and rhythm of daily life.

Do I need experience with qigong or Five Element theory?
No prior experience is required.
These frameworks are introduced gradually and experientially. Practices are accessible, and emphasis is placed on feeling and understanding rather than memorization or theory.

How do your offerings fit into everyday life?
Our work is designed to be integrated, not isolated.
Participants often describe leaving with simple, practical tools that support movement, awareness, and seasonal alignment in daily life, rather than practices that only exist on the mat or during retreat.

How do I know where to begin?
If you’re unsure where to start, Seasonal Immersions are often a supportive entry point.
You’re also welcome to reach out directly. We’re happy to help you discern which offering aligns with where you are in your practice.
